Rapt ~ (France, 2009) ~ Netflix

For what could have been a standard kidnap-caper film, this 2009 French offering is whip-smart and slick. Slick and smooth as the high-flying businessman who is kidnaped and brought low when his personal life is focused on. What personal life? Well, he’s got a bit of a gambling problem. And he cheats on his wife.

The cat and mouse game between the good guys and the bad guys is tense and adds several unusual elements to the mix. It pushes the boundaries, yet does the basics as well as any.

I love it when a genre film turns out to have a heart and mind. This one has plenty of both.
