The Things You Learn in Books

Sometimes you run across the oddest things in books. While reading 1Q84, there is a conversation between Tengo and a young nurse who finds him attractive. She invites him to her apartment to share some hash. She then tells them that it’s ok. Even Queen Victoria used it for her menstrual cramps. Turns out this it true, at least as reported by the BBC.

  1. I would have read that, assumed it was said to make him feel comfortable whether the character believed it or not. It’s interesting it turns out to be true. Good for you for looking it up.

  2. Great post… and really so true. I’ve learned some of the strangest and fantastic things through my literary travels.
