Night Catches Us ~ (USA, 2010) ~ Netflix Stream

It’s Philadelphia in 1976. The sixties are long over, but those times still haunt people, hold away over their lives. The past is a powerful dominatrix. Mixing with lots of black and white footage of the black power movement (Huey P., the Cleavers, Angela Davis – lots of black leather and black berets), there are still scores to settle and debts to pay.

This is a film with its heart in the right place, but its artistry struggling to find a strong pulse. It’s uneven, and has an unpolished feel about it. An indie film that is just too obviously “independent”.

Good music though, by The Roots.
