When I saw the headline – Dogs may help detect cancer of the colon – I had a mental picture of dogs sniffing the ass. They do that anyway, right? But no. The dogs sniff the breath of the patient. But wait. It gets better. The finding was published in the gastroenterology journal, Gut. Sweet! Turns out that dogs are as adept at sniffing out cancer as they are adept at sniffing out bombs and drugs. Melanoma, bladder, lung, ovarian, and breast cancer are all fair game.
Excuse me. I have an appointment with my canine oncologist.
