Project Reading

Finnish writer Sofi Oksanen on World Book Day ...

Now that I’ve finished my Booker thing for this year, I was going to go back to “regular” reading: whatever seems new and interesting, recommended by friends…all that. Then I came across a book in my friend Lisa Peet’s sidebar at Like Fire: a book from Estonia? That would be a first. So after finishing Slammerkin, the second 5-Star book from Emma Donoghue (man she is GOOD!), I kindled Purge by Sofi Oksanen. The project part (and there are several sites or challenges in cyberspace) is to read books from different countries, compiling a list along the way. I figured Estonia would be a good start, no? And the book looks good.

Starting late in the year, I’ll be doing this on my own, and follow it through as my fancy takes me. Estonia! Onward!
