The Cry of the Owl ~ (UK, 2009) ~ DVD

The plot of this film, adapted from a Patricia Highsmith novel is so hard to believe that it gets in the way of what might have been a much better film. I suppose I’d have to read the novel to really understand where the film went wrong, giving Highsmith the benefit of the doubt.

So a guy peeps outside a woman’s house in the woods until he’s caught; then she invites him in for coffee.; she dumps her fiance and starts stalking him? Oh, really?

Claude Chabrol adapted the Highsmith back in 1987 and I’m of half a mind to rent that one.

There are some interesting twists toward the end, but the movie has to be classified as a failure.
