Although it’s still Spring, Summer has started off in fine fashion. After two classic long and brutal slugfests, the Red Sox captured their sweep of the Yankees with a play that seemed to capture somehow the sweetness of it all. In a rarely seen play, Jacoby Ellsbury stole home. Straight up. None of your double steal bullshite. Manager Terry Francona , who attempts to keep himself and his players on an even keel, had a lot of trouble keeping a smile from cracking the surface of his stoic stone face. Who could blame him? It was a gleeful play. A curtain call, usually reserved for majestic and dramatic homers, had Jacoby stepping up to the top step of the dugout for a cap tip.
Yankee sweep. Homestand sweep. And tonight Jason Bay hits another (hopefully) game winning homer in the 9th to start the road trip. Can we lock this guy up long term, please?
