Word today that the art museum at Brandeis (Waltham, MA) – the Rose Art Museum – is selling all its art and closing it’s doors. This is too bad. It’s been many, many years since I visited The Rose – even though just a few years ago I lived right down the street. Walking distance. I remember it as an airy place, full of light. Sign ‘o the times.
They did have some cool Lichtenstein and Warhol’s.
This is a huge deal. The Rose has over 6,000 works of art, valued (at least on paper and before the crash) – at maybe $400 Million. How “the market” can absorb this much art remains to be seen. This is not entirely disconnected from the Madoff scandal. You know. The guy imprisoned in his Manhattan luxury condo.
