The plot is kind of silly. Perfect though, since I’m off to New York this weekend and one of the things I’m doing is seeing the Broadway comedy of this movie. Maybe it was meant to be a comedy all along. Somebody thought so.
Made in 1935, there are early flashes of Hitchcock lighting brilliance and really great performances by Robert Donat and Madeleine Carroll. They play off each other well. Truth be told, without them, the movie would be pretty dreadful. Blasphemy?
