It ain’t what it usta be
It’s true. There just is not that same level of dread, anticipation, anxiety when it comes to Red Sox-Yankee series. Fact is, some of the games are downright boring – and, truth be told – excruciating to watch. When these two teams meet, they typically play the longest games of the day, The game last night was twice as long as another major league game on the same day.
Why the length? Well, both teams more or less have the same patient approach at the plate – long and full counts. Both teams have only average long and middle relief. So the games are interminable.
Why the lack of the former passion? Well, without us all really realizing it, the “rivalry” jumped the shark back when the Red Sox came back from a 0-3 deficit in the playoffs and knocked the Yanks out with four straight. On top of that, two World Series in three years, and finishing ahead of the Yanks last year in the division…well, it just ain’t what it used to be.
It may get there again, but I don’t see how it’ll ever quite get to the same former level of goofiness borne of an inferiority complex. Hex that.
Well, there’s one constant: Rde Sox fans are *never* satisfied
